Dreamscapes: The glass elevator
A few months ago I had a dream. [Read in British accent] Let’s go on an adventure, shall we????
In this dream, the wife, kids, and I were living in a nice, modest three-story mansion that was big enough to warrant an elevator. The elevator was on the outside of the house and it was made entirely of glass. Anyhow, we decided we wanted to put the house on the market and move to a cabin in the woods.
A real estate company was coming over to look at the house and appraise it for us. We were showing three agents around the house, and at one point they asked where the stairs were. I showed them where it was, but if we wanted to get to the third floor, we could take the elevator. I personally loved the elevator and spent hours every day riding up to the third floor and then back down to the basement.
They said no thanks; they needed to check the stairs and make sure they were good to go. I said okay, but I’m going to take the elevator to the third floor, and I would meet them up there. I let them take the stairs, I step into the elevator, push the button to go to the third floor, and start my ascent. I am looking out the glass pane and the landscape around the house when I felt a bump in the elevator. The bump happened again but the second one was followed by a clank. I look up at the gears (I’m standing in a glass box, remember?) I see parts of the elevator start to fall to the ground and the elevator starts to tip. For some reason, I step into the middle of the room as it tips completely upside down. I quickly realize that I am still standing on the floor and hanging upside down. I look at my feet and they are on the floor but I can see the sky instead of grass. I look up and I see the grass instead of the sky. That’s when the top of the elevator breaks off and shatters as it hits the ground. Instead of panicking, I’m kind of surprised that my footing is still secure despite the fact I’m upside down too.
Suddenly the door opens up. I turn and see Randi and the real estate agents looking in on me. I said “Oh, hey.” They said it back and pulled me inside. I said: “So, I think I broke the elevator.” They said it didn’t matter, The stairs were sturdy and that’s all that mattered. They ended up buying the house for more than what we asked for and it was really the sturdiness of the stairs that sold them.
I woke up from that dream shortly there after.
